Ever since the Union of the Isles was established with the Treaty of Four Crowns, Britannia and Éire have enjoyed centuries of quiet prosperity and semi-isolationism. Sure, the four royal families bickered almost as much as they intermarried, but nothing significant ever came of it. All in all, the nations of England, Cymru, Alba and Éire were free to quietly stew in their largely insular existence.
Or so it was until the invention of the Atmospheric Engine, the safest, most stable and most efficient steam engine the world had ever seen. The new engine not only propelled the industry of the Union of the Isles to a degree of prominence never thought possible, it also sparked an age of technological innovation that took the world by storm. Suddenly finding itself taking center stage in the economy of a world that seems to become more interconnected and cosmopolitan with every airship launched, the sleepy little nation of England is undergoing a whirlwind transformation that only seems to grow more intense with every passing decade.
But in the midst of this beautiful chaos, something dark and rank is brewing in the shadows. There’s something rotten growing among the exalted ranks of English academia, and it’s about to go up in flames.
Suddenly pulled into the middle of all this is Alden Stowe, a small business owner of little social standing. He’s out of his depth. He’s out of his element. But he’s in the money, so at least he’s got that much going for him.

Long ago, she used to think of him as a fairly ordinary dad, but that had all changed after he came home late one night when she was nine years old. And when her father changed, Kaia's entire life had changed in turn.
Now, her life was about to change once more. And nothing would ever be the same again.

Adam Wilson was, by most counts, an ordinary man. He was of good health, he held a good job and he had a loving family. He did, however, have a rather unusual hobby. A hobby grounded in a vaguely remembered childhood adventure that he had long since written off as a simple children's game embellished by a young boy's imagination. But things aren't always so simple, and the past doesn't always remain in the past.

The cloak had been white when she got it, but before the sun had even had time to set it had been stained with red. Now, the blood had stained it from hem to hood, and the pure, unsullied white it had once sported was nowhere to be seen. Unsurprising, perhaps, because in the end, everything always came down to blood. The real question was whose blood. And it wasn't going to be hers.
